Who
Mr. Moffatt began his career in music at a very young age when his father enrolled Gregg and his sister into the Ryan's
Dance Academy for dance instructions in Tap and Ballroom Dancing. After years of training, they were both "asked" to
join a travelling troupe of insurance company personnel that performed all over New England. Gregg then pursued
Music with his first instrument, the Accordion with a well respected teacher, John Caruso. Mr. Moffatt's musical
ambitions received a near fatal blow when he was rejected from service in Vietnam due to
extreme deafness. "It was on
that long train ride back from the New Haven induction center that I cried like a child - staring with my face against the
window to hide my sadness!"-GEM Many years later, his hearing was repaired by a procedure at the UConn Medical
Center in Farmington, Connecticut. Due to an inner ear problem that was fixed with a plastic implant, Mr. Moffatt was
again able to pursue his musical ambitions. Since then, he has gone on to own his own Music Store and now is the
owner and founder of: Moffatt's Piano and Keyboard Masters in Connecticut. He has taught thousands of students the
Piano and Keyboard in a very lucrative career in the Connecticut area. In 2007, he purchased the "Corporate Center"

studies with the very best Pianists and Teachers in the nation.

Joseph Ryan of
Ryan's Dance Academy which was on Farmington Avenue
In Hartford, Connecticut was a dance instructor to me and my sister,
Lynn...and he taught me how to count!!! He also taught me what
patience was all about...as I watched him try to get 25 students to do
the same thing in a tap dancing chorus line! This was not only
inspiring...it also led to some very funny situations. The humor of it all
was never lost on me!

* * * *
"Mr. Ryan was a very patient teacher and his tutelage has been of great help in
all that I have accomplished in the music field. His words of praise to my father
about my dancing abilities...inspired me to continue on...on what has
become...a life-long pursuit of musical interpretation."
-GEM
"To have been able to study with such fine people and PIANISTS has
allowed me to count myself...truly fortunate and blessed.

To all of you...I shall cherish the time that we have spent together and shall consider it all...as the
best time that I have spent in all of my life.

I thank you...all...from the heart.

I shall have your patient understanding beside me whenever I am sitting next to
every student that I teach in the future. As teachers, all we really do is... pass it on!

I hope that in some small way...I will continue your passion for others
and pass on all that you have given me throughout the years.

I shall take the memories of all of you with me throughout the rest of my life.

In your eyes, support and confidence and kind words...

I have found an invincible summer...

Since my hearing was restored...the best thing that I have heard over the years is...

YOUR VOICES!"

Life comes full circle....

Decades ago, I visited with Dr. Leonard Seeber at his home in Storrs, Connecticut in hopes of gaining a placement in his hectic
schedule with no success.  I also wanted to study with Raymond Hanson  and or Anne Koscielny from the Hartt School when I was
first starting out and that also met with no success.

Last year, I received a call from a person on a street not to be mentioned who was looking for Piano Lessons. While sitting in this
person's living room, I mentioned to the Doctor that was taking Piano Lessons with me...that his street's name sounded very familiar
to me and that I had once come to a similar street looking to have a Dr. Leonard Seeber, Pianist, take over my Piano training. The
Doctor's eyes grew wide... and he pointed out his back door to the house next door and said, " Leonard was my neighbor but he
recently passed on!"  It was a very sad moment for us both.  Leonard was an extraordinary Pianist and Teacher and a fine person!
I was aware that I would never get to study with him...and Dr. Peter's was aware that his fine neighbor was forever gone!

This week, I was accepted as a student of BOTH....Sima Brodsky and Dr. Watson Morrison.

Dr. Watson Morrison studied with Raymond Hanson and Dr. Seeber...whom he often consulted with prior to giving performances on
various pieces. Dr. Watson Morrison has a 55 year history with the Hartt School and the Watson Morrison Scholarship is named after
him. In addition, Dr. Morrison studied with one of my first teachers, Dr. Moshe Paranov.

Sima Brodsky studied with Raymond Hanson who was trained by Harold Bauer--> trained by Leschetizky---> by Czerny---> by
Beethoven---> by Haydn!  Sima also studied with the extraordinary, Anne Koscielny (Hanson...she married Raymond Hanson!). Anne
Koscielny has studied with Robert Goldsand, Cecile Genhart of the Eastman School, and Frank Mannheimer. Robert Goldsand was
trained by Moriz Rosenthal who was a direct student of Franz Liszt. Moriz Rosenthal also studied with Karol Mikuli who was a student
of Chopin and was the-->Assistant to Chopin!  Cecile Genhart was trained by Ferrucio Busoni and Tobias Matthay! Frank
Mannheimer studied with Arthur Schnabel and Tobias Matthay , both of whom were connected to the best that have ever been.
Sima also studied with Gabriel Chodos who was trained by Carlo Zecchi who was trained by Ferrucio Busoni.
( Zecchi's best man at his wedding was Artur Schnabel.)

It is no small wonder that I could not get a placement with Anne Koscielny, Raymond Hanson
or Leonard Seeber at that time in my career.

But, Life is a strange circle....and we have come full circle! Again, I am reminded of the words of one of my first Piano Teachers,
Dr. Moshe Paranov...who told me that you don't have to be a great musical genius...all you have to do is outlive everyone else!
He was speaking of having  patience!  So  far...his words are ringing true!

"I look forward to my training with both of these fine individuals...and my journey...back in TIME! I have always held to the statement,
"Everything works out...a little bit down the road!"  Those that know me smile whenever I say that phrase...and follow the smile up
with ..."Oh, boy...here he goes again! "

BUT....it does!

It feels good to be going...home!  Novartis the poet  and philosopher once stated when he was asked, "Where are you going?"
"Always home, always home!" ...was his response! -GEM
* * * *
To Mr. Seeber's wife, Jane and his Family...though I never was able to study with Leonard Seeber...
I highly respected and admired him and I share in your deep sense of loss.

Please, accept my deepest and  most heartfelt condolences. -GEM

"Most people have all the answers...they just don't apply them! Breaking through FEARS...is critical to gaining the life YOU CHOOSE to have in the future!
I learned in Real Estate...decades ago..that everything I could ever want was just...beyond some door! Decades ago ,
I picked up the phone and called..Moshe Paranov...who answered his phone....and I got behind a door...and I got behind a dream...that led me here!
Some people would say that my arriving here was all by accident? I would say...there are no accidents in this universe.
That arriving here....was a thought...brought to action!" -GEM
"The ability to ...take
action...defines
successful people!"
Did Mr. Moffatt get to study with every
teacher that he desired studying with
over the decades?

NO!

Was luck involved?

NO!

My success has been directly related
to my ability to accept the word ,
"NO"....

and keep going

until I got a, "YES!"

Let me repeat that...this way...

Your success in anything will be
directly related to how
many times....you can eat
doors closing in your face!

Some people actually think that I live
on a Lake...have several homes and
classic cars and have studied with
who I have...because I got  lucky!???

But, I never won the lottery! NONE of
my teachers EVER gave me FREE
piano lessons! But, I understand how
success works...and when you have
that information...AND APPLY IT....in
this field...in time...

You will arrive at a resume that is
DIRECT LINE to the best that have
EVER BEEN in history and it will
be no accident...just a result of 38
years of persistence!

Colonel Sanders of KFC fame began
trying to sell his chicken recipe in
stores that already existed at age....65!

He went into thousands of chicken
stores....and was laughed at in many of
them.

But, he understood the law of large
numbers...and he understood that
5-10 no's...would give a YES!

So, if  you want to be
successful...model the behavior of
those that are successful!

Accept, that  failure is the starting
ground on which to gain a
HOME RUN!

Babe Ruth
struck out many times!

"I KNOW that feeling....and you don't
die from it...as it only serves to build
CHARACTER!"  -GEM
"There are no
failures...just outcomes..."

We can't leave that there...Mr. Moffatt's hearing was restored through an
operation at the UCONN HEALTH CENTER and this began his PIANO CAREER!
" I would like to thank the thousands of students and their parents (and my many wonderful TEACHERS) that have chosen me to help them gain a better appreciation of Music and a better
understanding of the Piano. Your support of me has brought me to where I am today and has helped me to gain the background and education that I now possess in the field of Piano Performance.

We have come a long way together...from those first piano lessons given in my home.

I am convinced that sometimes the TEACHER....is truly the student. You have taught me much and have made my life so much more richer for your having been involved in my life.

I do not know where all of this is going...but I can tell you all this much....

I would not have missed this TRAIN for anything!  If I had to do it all over again....I wouldn't have missed any of your smiles,
kind words of support...and belief in me!

So, please accept my heartfelt THANKS....and know....that a thousand pictures....a thousand plus faces....grace my
yesterdays....and help me to face the future that lies before me!

A train left a station in New Haven, from the New Haven Military Induction Center....with a kid crying in a seat because HE THOUGHT....his musical aspirations were dead and gone...and that he was
going to be totally deaf in a few years.

Years later, in a small operating room at the UCONN HEALTH CENTER....someone whispered in his ear.....

and that young man ....that was coming awake.... on that operating table....

was given the blessing....of being allowed to hear ALL OF YOUR VOICES.

Gratitude....is something we do in silence every day....
but TODAY we will also do it  publicly!"

To all of you...and to the many wonderful teachers that have given me
their time and patience....well....

THANK YOU ALL,

A rather nice article
about Bela Nagy from
one of his former
students.

Bela Nagy had taught at
Boston University and
was one of the best
pianists of his time.

He had been trained by
Bartok and Dohnanyi. He
died in 1990 from cancer.

Bela Nagy was a teacher
to my teacher, Dr.
Watson Morrison.

I hope you enjoy this
article.

This is ...GEORGE!
This is Joseph Haydn...not
George Washington...trust
me!!!  ;)
So much for the STARVING MUSICIAN
belief?

Point being...that when you wonder
what Haydn looked like...think of the
photos that you have seen of George
Washington ...and add a few more
curls to his hair...or wig...or whatever?

and bingo....!  you will have mentally
arrived!????
"To all of my students over
these decades of teaching, I
hope that you have learned
from me that some people
read their horoscope in the
newspaper...while others
create their own horoscope!"
